LIFE | A Needed Breakfast

Thursday, May 07, 2015

I don't eat breakfast. I know, I know, it's the most important meal of the day and it jumpstarts your metabolism.  I get that, but at 5 am, or sometimes earlier, eating something doesn't even sound good, and I don't get hungry until around lunch time, anyway. So,. breakfast is usually one of those meals that sounds good at night.
But, on days that I have the time, it's sometimes calming to prepare a small breakfast.

I think that french toast is the simplest breakfast to make, besides pouring milk into a bowl of cereal. It only requires a couple of ingredients, and is incredibly versatile. Vegan? Use almond milk instead of dairy milk and skip the milk. Gluten free? Use gluten free bread. Don't like vanilla? Hey, a savory french toast is great, too!

2 slices of bread (I'm using Texas Toast)
1/.8 cup of milk (I use 1%)
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract

1) Lightly grease a skillet with a little butter or cooking spray.

2) In a dish, add together the milk, eggs and vanilla. Beat them gently with a whisk or a fork to incorporate everything together.

3) One piece at a time, dip the bread into the mixture and place it in the pan.

4) Cook the bread on a medium heat until both sides are brown.

5) Top the bread with a bit of syrup or butter, and you're good to go!

You can add sugar, cinnamon, or whatever spices you like to your mixture and you can top it with whatever you want. Some people want powdered sugar, some people prefer fruits, it's all up to you!
