3 Ways to Decorate Small Spaces for the Holidays | as post on katielikme.com #decor #home

I live in a studio apartment, which is far from large. It's perfect for us but it's not really conducive for decorating for the Holidays. Since this is the first year that we've had our own place sans a roommate, we decided we wanted to be festive!

But, how can you be festive in a small, rented, apartment?

I scratched my head and scoured the Internet for ideas to inspire me. But, it seems like everyone has a big space that they can decorate. Since I don't, it proved difficult to find realistic inspiration. But, I did finally find some I liked and recreated. These ideas are not my own, I just did my own spin on them!

Washi tape & Fairy Lights Tree

When you don't have the space for a tree, washi tape is here to save the day. I've made a post in the past about washi tape decor in a home and it's wonders so I'll paraphrase that spiel here: washi tape doesn't peel off the paint and is easy to remove, and it comes in a multitude of colors and designs, which makes it perfect for renters and small spaces alike. Using a visual guide, I freehand taped off the tree in sparkly gold washi tape.

It's just begging for some (hopefully 3D) presents to be placed under it!

Want to bling it up? Add fairy lights. Using clear tape, I taped up the lights in a random, zig zag motion to imitate a decorated tree. When taping fairy lights, never tape the bulb, only the wire. Clear tape works surprisingly well for holding fairy lights up. If you're scared of a hazard, you can use sticky back light hooks to hang them, but I've never had an issue with taping them.

Instead of doing a random zig-zag, you can also trace around the tree and create a tree trunk with the remaining lights. There are almost endless possibilities with lights, so just go for it!

Put Lights on EVERYTHING

Have a mantle? Put some lights on it.

Have a porcelain stag head on your wall? Put some lights on it.

Fairy lights scream winter and the Holiday season, so chucking them on everything gives the illusion that they are decorated, even if it's hap hazard.
The lights on the stag head are only $3, and they were found at Target's One Spot section. I draped them over the antlers and head, and placed the battery pack on his neck, against the wall. The lights on the mantle are actually apart of my regular decor, but they double as Holiday decor this time of year!

Bust out the washi tape again for this idea!
I featured this deer head a little while ago, and it makes the perfect holiday decor. You can find a tutorial on Pinterest no doubt, and it takes little to no skill! The best part? You can make it as big or as small as you want and it's completely flat! I swear, when working in small areas, washi tape is the best for decorating.
