Late Summer Fashion and Beauty Favorites!

Monday, August 15, 2016

The end of summer is near and we are in that transitional season of not so hot days and nights that is a departure from the normal summer season.

Autumn begins next month (September 1st meteorological and September 22nd astrological), so summer is ending rather quickly. I like to call this the late summer season, because as it grows increasingly less summer-like in the world, it's not quite fall yet. I've curated a list of my favorite fashion and beauty items for late summer!

1. Maxi dresses
Maxi dresses help to beat the heat, but they also help to cover the legs from the cool wind.
This one is from H&M and it's a mess of pleated wonderfulness.

2. Soft shorts
This pair specifically is from Forever 21 but all high waist soft shorts are in my outfit rotation at the moment. Lightweight, comfortable and great for the season, soft shorts are the perfect alternative to denim.

3. Pins
Enamel pins, homemade pins, collar pins--I'm in love. Especially adding them to a jean jacket, which are customary in the late summer season. The R2D2 in I got fro Anime Expo in 2014, and the Vulcan Salute pin was given to me by a friend from their Loot Crate in July.

4. Straw hat
Truthfully, I wear hats every season, but the straw hat is perfect for this season, with it's lightweught and structured look, while also offering sun protection from the harsh filtered sun. This hat was thrifted, but there are tons out there, just waiting to be put on your head.

5. Big sunglasses
I bought this pair on Vinted and I love the browns in it, which is different than the other pure black pairs I own. A pair of big sunglasses are great in this season because they protect your eyes from the sun while also adding a BAMF look to your outfit. I think sunglasses are essential in every season, honestly.

6. Morphe 35OS Palette
I audibly gasped when I received this palette. I bought it because some of my favorite YouTubers loved it, and when it came in, it is a neutral lover's eyeshadow dream. It is creamy, pigmented and purely perfect. Plus, it's only $22.99.

7. Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone
This is one of the most expensive make up proucts I have ever bought, but, it has not let me down. My highlight always looks fantastic and it is perfect for my pale skin. Everyone raves about Opal and Champagne pop, but Moonstone is the one for me.

8. Milani Baked Blush in Dolce Pink
Baked blushes are sparkly pigmented heaven-sent make up items that give my cheeks color. This one has gold shimmer in it and I'm in love. It's great for the late summer season because since it does have hints of gold in it, it lends itself to both the summer season and the fall season, making it a good transitional make up item.

9. Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation in Fair Sand
This foundation in hydrating against the increasingly dry air, while also having SPF in it. It's an oil free (always good) full coverage foundation that doesn't feel full coverage and truly stays all day. I wouldn't wear this into the fall and winter months, personally, as there are more hydrating foundations out there for that season, but in late summer, it's a wonderful fit.

10. Garnier Skin Active Micellar Cleansing Water
My Holy Grail make up remover. Make up wipes burn my eyes and I know I can't be the only one who has experienced that. I used to think that these kinds of products were gimmicks, but after swiping a cotton pad of this micellar water over my waterproof eyeliner and mascara, I was sold. It lifts away make up like nothing and it's gentle. I've never used a product so light to remove my make up, but this one does the job magnificently.

What are your go-to essentials for this season? What do you recommend?

  1. Maxi dresses are also one of my favorites this time of year for that very reason! And that eye shadow palette really does look dreamy! I'm definitely a neutrals girl, so I'll have to check it out for sure!
